What Are The Different Green Energy Sources?

Posted by:

More people are concerned about using green energy. It's a way to save money and keep natural resources, at the same time. Keep reading this article for more tips on how start living green.

Do you have your own farm? You could rent a small portion of your property to an energy company willing to install a wind turbine. You and your neighbors will benefit from free energy and this installation will not take a lot of space.

Wash clothing in cold water. Almost 90% of energy used for doing laundry is due to heating the water. Washing your clothing in cold water will get them just as clean as washing them in hot water if you have a good laundry detergent. Also, don't wash your clothes until you can completely fill the washer, as this saves energy over time.

TIP! You can save electricity by unplugging chargers when they are not in use. All the chargers you use for mp3 players, cell phones, laptops and any other devices draw in some charge when they're plugged in and aren't being used.

Close the curtains or blinds before you leave the house. This helps to keep your house at a cooler temperature and lower the amount of energy used. Usually the windows with the most sun are the one's which face south. Dark, lined curtains, roman shades or roller shades may be something to consider using on your windows.

Think about heating your water with solar water heaters. If you're in an area that doesn't have to worry about freezing temperatures, you can get a system that will circulate the water through a solar heater before pumping it into your home. But, be sure to keep a regular water heater for a backup should the sun not come out or for times that you need large amounts of hot water.

When you are not using something, turn it off. When you exit a room, be sure that everything has been fully turned off. Try using a power strip so you can turn off all of your electronics at once, instead of letting power be wasted in standby mode.

TIP! If you use fuel to heat your home, ask a professional about using biodiesel instead. Many heating systems can be switched over to run on biodiesel without needing extra modifications or parts.

Use a green and tankless model as opposed to a tank-style water heater. Even though you still need electricity or gas in order to heat water with these tanks, they use only the water you need instead of always keeping your whole tank heated. Tankless heaters can supply the entire home or certain faucets.

If you are on a mission to go green, start by keeping electric heaters off or on a very low setting during winter months. Ways to cut down on electricity include wearing warm clothing indoors and using a fireplace to heat your home. Keep in mind that cooler air is better for your breathing while you sleep as it prevents your airways from becoming dry.

Passive Solar Power

TIP! A good way to conserve energy is to not use your dishwasher unless it is completely full. It's sacrilege to turn it on with just one or two dishes inside.

When looking at solar power, know the difference between passive solar power and active. Passive solar power is power on demand and does not require cells for power storage. Active solar power has plenty of power storing ability so you will have energy ready anytime you may need it. Active power requires the installation of solar panels, mechanical systems, and cells. Passive power uses the sun for thermal energy in the home.

The ideas here can save you money, and the environment, at the same time. Green energy is a great way to cut costs and protect the environment.
