This year’s Green Festival took place at the Concourse Exhibition Center at 8th Street and Brannan. The two main sponsors were Global Exchange www.globalexchange.org and Green America www.greenamericatoday.org. Both of these organizations do an excellent job presenting the best of green in a festive environment.
The festival took place over three days, November 13/14/15, 2009 and featured over 125 speakers, ongoing workshops, kid’s activities, music and dance. I shopped until I dropped through more than 450 eco-friendly exhibits that included clothing, fair trade items, books, media, art, music, and natural body care. The producers guarantee strict screening of all participating businesses to insure that they operate responsibly on both a social and environmental level.
In the Soul Kitchen, all day Saturday, there were continuous 45 minute food demonstrations that made my mouth water. Some of the best of the Bay Area’s chefs whipped up meals from seasonal and raw foods, many geared towards the vegan diet. Sustainable food sources and from scratch recipes prevailed.
Saturday wrapped up at 6:00 PM with the Hemp Industries Association Fashion Show featuring the latest fashions for living lighter on the Earth. There really was something for everyone, and everyone, who was anyone, was there…the place was packed!
